This project encompasses the ongoing bodies of work OUR WAY and LOST, which were developed in 2021 and detailed in the graduate exhibition REDIRECTED. With a focus on experimental printmaking techniques, found objects, weaving, jewellery and installation, these recent bodies of work explore the power and peril of the directional sign, its ability to control, repress and disorientate First Peoples on their own land. By reinterpreting existing signage, these works reference my personal experience and that of many others who are part of a number of generations of lost, stolen, hidden and displaced First Peoples in Australia – the reinvented sign direct back to where ancestors can be found, implying that First Peoples never were and never will be lost due to their cultural connection to the land.
