Family
‘Family is symbolically expressed in the circle motif for me – circles mean family. The work also symbolises the ripples in the ocean – continuous – like family and the connections I have with my family, and chosen family – never ending. The interwoven connections, and different paths that bring us home.’
Commissioned in 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic for the new offices of DLA Piper, this powerful work by Gunditjmara and Torres Strait Islander artist Lisa Waup considers the connections we share with one another, through a layering of line and topography.
Created from interlocking panels and laser-cut in multiple layers to signify both a sense of landscape alongside family connections, this large scale work sits within the heart of DLA’s new offices in Melbourne.
“As an artist and art-maker, there’s so much that you bring of yourself to this, and stories behind the pieces, so for that to be embraced, is fantastic.”
